Chapter One: Embers
(BOS Entry: Gìomanach). Awakening starts where Dark Magick left off: Bree Warren and Robbie Gurevitch rescue Morgan Rowlands from almost being burned alive, courtesy of Cal Blaire. Hunter Naill and Sky Eventide come soon afterward, and Hunter asks Sky to cast a glamour so they can leave without being noticed. He drives Morgan to his house and asks if she wants to talk. Morgan says no, not yet.

Morgan showers at Hunter's place and feels desolate, shattered, and most of all betrayed by the one she thought she loved. After the shower, she and Hunter talk. Morgan manages to tell him all that she remembers. Hunter explains about the possible agenda of Selene Belltower and Cal. Afterwards, he takes Morgan home. Before she goes into her house, he warns her not to let her guard down. Morgan blurts out that she feels like a fool and loved Cal very much. Hunter tells her that it wasn't wrong to love Cal; there is good in him.

Morgan goes inside her house and tells her parents that she broke up with Cal and had a car accident. Before they can ask more, she flees upstairs. Morgan takes out her earrings that Cal gave her for her birthday. She then realizes that they are spelled. In fact, all her birthday gifts from him could be spelled. Mrs. Rowlands steps in and asks if Morgan will be all right. Morgan says yes and holds her mother's hand. Morgan soon falls asleep.

(BOS Entry: Gìomanach). Morgan wakes up to a quiet house. Her mother left her a note, saying that Morgan doesn't have to go to school that today. Morgan calls her mother at work to thank her and then takes off to Practical Magick.

Morgan goes to Practical Magick and talks with Alyce and David Redstone about Cal's spelled gifts. Alyce says she needs a purification spell. Morgan overhears David on the phone arguing. She asks Alyce about it and Alyce states that David's Aunt Rosaline died. Since Rosaline has been borrowing money during the years, the store, which David now owns, is in deep dept with Stuart Afton, the propertier. Practical Magick could close, and the tennets that live in the rooms above the shop--Lisa Winston with her two sons and the Romerios, an elderly couple--have to leave. Morgan is sadden by this revelation. She doesn't want to loose Practical Magick.

Hunter commands that David stop and come forward. David eventually does and pleas that he did nothing wrong. When Hunter asks him if he summoned taibhs to get Stuart Afton to forgive Aunt's debt, David admits it's all true. David did it for the people who lived above the store. Sky explains it could be for his own piece of mind, to help stop dark magick that destroys lives.

Bree comes to pick Morgan up to drive her home. Hunter comes by later and tells her that the Council has passed their sentence on David: he is to be bound and stripped. He needs four blood witches as witnesses, Morgan being one of them. Morgan is shocked and stricken with grief. Suddenly, they kiss each other. They are both pleasantly surprised. Hunter leaves.

Tuesday at sunset the ritual of David's stripping takes place. Afterwards, Morgan is surprised that it was less harsh than what she thought it would be. Hunter gives Morgan a stone and asks her to find its name. Morgan is a little confused by the stone and Hunter says it's Morganite. He tells her that if a blood witch holds it in his or her hand and puts their energy into it, it will show what the blood witch holds deepest in their heart. When Hunter opens his hand, Morgan sees herself in the middle of the stone.
