Chapter One: Kithic
(Diary Entry: Selene). Morgan Rowlands goes to Sharon Goodfine's house for a circle meeting. Hunter Niall admits he's glad she's there because she has been avoiding him for the past few days.
Morgan is surprised that the members of Circle Kithic are present at her coven instead of just her own. Sky Eventide and Hunter announce they want to merge the two covens together. They vote on merging the Circle Cirrus and Circle Kithic. Afterwards, they have a "baby" circle, voicing their fears.

Chapter Two: Spin
(Diary Entry: Selene). Hunter and Morgan leave together from the circle meeting. Suddenly, Morgan voices that he is going too fast and he agrees but cannot stop. The car gets out of control and spins. They ended up alright but a little frighten. They suspect Selene Belltower might be back. They walk to Morgan's house and Morgan uses her own car to drive Hunter back to his car to wait for the tow truck. The tow truck comes and says that Hunter has no brake fluid in his car. This puzzles Hunter and Morgan.
Morgan heads to Hunter's apartment. Hunter wants to follow her home in Sky's car, but Morgan refuses.

Chapter Three: Sharing
(Diary Entry: Selene). Morgan skips church, and Bree Warren asks if her parents mind. Morgan replies with a yes and says it's hard to juggle both. They sit and drink coffee together. They talk about some things, but the subject shifts to Robbie Gurevitch, and Bree feels uncomfortable with Robbie, since she knew him since childhood. She wants him, but she's still not sure. The subject then switches to Cal Blaire. Morgan admits she still loves him, but hates him also.
Later that day, Hunter calls Morgan. He needs to talk to her. They make plans to meet by a grocery store.
When they meet, Hunter says he went to the mechanic. The mechanic found his break lines cut. They discuss who the culprit might be but don't come to any absolute conclusions. Hunter says it might be best for Morgan to do a tàth màenma to increase her knowledge in magick.

Chapter Four: Begin
(Diary Entry: Selene). Morgan and Mary K. are at home painting Morgan's room. Mary K. asks if she ever had sex with Hunter and Cal, and Morgan flushes but says no.
Hunter calls Morgan and asks her to come with him to an antique fair; Morgan agrees. Hunter buys an expensive quilt for Morgan. She is touched.

Chapter Five: Flicker
(Diary Entry: Selene). Morgan, Bree, and Mary K. go to Practical Magick. Morgan sees Alyce and talks with her. Alyce introduces her to Finn Foster, a blood witch who is helping her with the store now. Alyce also talks about the tàth màenma. Morgan asks Alyce if she can do it with her. Alyce replies she will think about it.
Bree mistakenly pasts by Cal's old neighborhood. She apologizes to Morgan, but Morgan sees a flicker of light in one of the window's of Cal's house.

Chapter Six: The Lueg
(Diary Entry: Selene). Morgan shows Hunter her altar and he approves. Morgan is nervous because boys are not allowed upstairs. Mary K. comes in and blushes when she sees Hunter there. Hunter seems to love it. Hunter quizzes Morgan on some things, and suddenly she senses something out of the ordinary. She confesses to Hunter about what she saw at Cal's house, and Hunter is not to happy with the news.
They both decide to scry with a lueg to find information about Cal and Selene. But what they get is brief contact with Hunter's father, Daniel Niall.

Chapter Seven: Circle of Three
(Diary Entry: Selene). Morgan is concerned about Mary K. She seems very depressed. Mary K. says she feels down about boys in general, and Morgan, in some ways, reluctantly agrees.
Morgan goes to Practical Magick to get some Christmas gifts. She is surprised to find Sky there. Alyce suggests they do a circle of three.

Chapter Eight: Attacked
(Diary Entry: Selene). Bree drives Hunter, Morgan, and Robbie for an outing. Morgan asks about Hunter's father and Hunter replies he contacted his mentor Kennet Muir. The group relaxes and chats. Morgan tells Bree and Robbie about the flicker she saw at Cal's house.
The group goes to Greenport to do some shopping and have a good time. They get home by the mid afternoon, and Morgan spends time with her Aunt Elieen and Paula Steen, Elieen's girlfriend. That night Morgan drives to the weekly circle meeting. Suddenly, she hears Cal calling her name. She panics and slams on the brakes. She is taken aback by his voice and has mixed emotions. Morgan arrives at the circle meeting. She hurries to Hunter and meets him by the wooden porch stairs. Suddenly, the stairs collapse.
Morgan wakes up from the shock. Nothing on Hunter and Morgan is broken. Hunter analyzes the stairs and sees that somebody sawed it to break. Sky starts to circle, and after the circle, Morgan talks to Hunter privately. She sees Hunter without his shirt and her face reddens. Hunter teases her about her Woodbane athame, and Morgan blurts out that Cal contacted her. Hunter is not pleased. In fact, he's extremely angry. Morgan realizes that Hunter is jealous.
Sky continues on with the circle about runes. After the circle, Morgan follows Bree home but looses track of her. She suddenly sees Cal in the middle of the road.

Chapter Nine: Cal
(Diary Entry: Selene). Cal uses magick to make Morgan's car engine shut down. Morgan demands to know why he is here. Cal admits he has come back to be with her. He says he loves her and has broken away from Selene. Morgan doesn't believe him.
He shows her the burn hand mark on his chest as proof. She does a tàth meànma on him to find he is telling the truth. Cal says they can defeat Selene--if and only if she joins him. Morgan says she doesn't trust him. Suddenly, headlights appear on the road and Cal disappears in the woods. Hunter comes and asks if Morgan is all right. She says she's fine but doesn't tell him about her meeting with Cal. He apologizes about being upset earlier. Morgan goes home.

Chapter Ten: Open
(Diary Entry: Selene). Morgan has a bad dream and wakes up confused on what to do. She wants to tell Hunter about Cal but can't. Morgan senses Hunter coming and asks if they can drive somewhere so they can talk. They go to Practical Magick. Alyce agrees to do the tàth meànma brach with Morgan.
Morgan finally confesses she saw Cal. Hunter is upset and demands to know why she didn't tell him. Morgan says he's freaking out. They both start arguing. But when the fight stops, Morgan apologizes.
Hunter tells her he wants her to be happy--with him. All she has to do is tell him. Morgan is silent and contemplates this.

Chapter Eleven: The Graveyard
(Diary Entry: Selene). Sunday: tàth-meànma-brach-with-Alyce day. Hunter calls her and says she should be at his house by three. Morgan feels she needs closure with Cal, so she goes to the old Methodist graveyard and sends him a witch message. When he comes, she wants to know if he truly broke away from Selene. Cal says yes. Once again, Cal tries to woo her, but it's not working. In fact, his presence repulses her and she wants to get away. Hunter comes into the scene and tells Cal that Morgan lured him there on purpose (even though this is not true). When both brothers get ready to fight, Morgan uses a spell to keep them bound them to her will. She orders Hunter to get into the car and releases the spell when she arrives at his apartment. Hunter is upset and goes up stairs without saying a word. She apologizes and says she loves him.

Chapter Twelve: The Brach
(Diary Entry: Selene). Hunter falls asleep and Morgan goes down stairs. Sky prepares a tea that cleanses the body. With Sky's help, Morgan finished the pre-purification ritual. When Alyce is there, the ritual of exchanging knowledge commences. When they start to break away from each other, they feel a presence. Both Morgan and Alyce use sigils and magick to block the dark magick seeping into the room from Selene. Morgan then faints.

Chapter Thirteen: Charred
(Diary Entry: Selene). Morgan feels bad the next morning. She drinks ale and decides to get up and find more information about her birth parents. Hunter comes and they talk. She asks about Alyce and Hunter replies she is fine. She tells Hunter that she needs to find out about her birth parents. He agrees.
The next morning they drive to the old barn site where Maeve and Angus died. They use meditation and Morgan sees a vision of her mother dying. She finds out that Ciaran killed her parents.

Chapter Fourteen: Bait
(Diary Entry: Selene). Tears stream down Morgan's face. She tells Hunter what she saw. Suddenly, she feels Selene calling her again.
Morgan goes home and finds her mother frantic. Mary K. is gone. Morgan calls Bakker, but he says he didn't see her. They try to figure out where Mary K. could be.
Mrs. DiNapoli comes to their house to borrow some flour. The neighbor reveals she saw Mary K. get into a green Jaguar. Morgan knows that Selene drives a green Jag and deduces Mary K. is held in Cal's house.

Chapter Fifteen: Trap
(Diary Entry: Selene). Both Morgan and Hunter take off. But Hunter pulls over on the side of the road. He tells Morgan to send Alyce and Sky a witch message to get some backup from the Council as fast as they can. Hunter preps Morgan for the battle with Selene. He opens the trunk and Morgan gears up with her mother's tools.
They get to Cal's house and search for Selene. Morgan knows Selene has been there, for her magickal writings are on the wall. Morgan believes Selene to be in her library waiting for them. Hunter and Morgan head for the door.

Chapter Sixteen: Selene
(Diary Entry: Selene). It takes some time before they can open the door. When they do, it's very dark but Morgan finds her sister there. Hunter gives Morgan some last minute advise before the battle. Morgan focuses her power on the candles to light up the room. Selene commends Morgan and tries to persuade Morgan to join her. Morgan refuses.
Selene casts out her first attack. Hunter cries out and Morgan is overwhelmed with terrible, intolerable pain. She tries to convince herself that it's an illusion, and finally beats the pain. Fear flashes in Selene's face. Selene then attacks Hunter, but it's deterred. Morgan wonders how to battle darkness with light. They need to kill Selene, but Morgan doesn't know how. Hunter then throws a glass globe at Selene, but it doesn't help. Selene asks Morgan once again to join her, but Morgan again says no. Hunter tries to use the binding spell he uses as a Seeker, but Selene easily puts up blocking spells. Then Selene asks Morgan if she wants to know how her parents died.

Chapter Seventeen: Shift
(Diary Entry: Selene). Morgan says she knows how her parents died. Suddenly, Selene creates a horrible illusion of Hunter. She then lashes out witch fire, knocking Hunter down.
Selene focuses her attention Morgan, and Morgan feels Selene's dark magick prickle against her skin. Morgan then hears Meave Roirdan's voice, and it gives her determination to defeat Selene. She invokes a spell that comes instinctively to her. Cal appears but Morgan presses on. She realizes that the spell she is calling is the same cage spell that killed her biological parents. Selene panics and blackness billows up to take Morgan's soul. Cal runs forward and blocks his mother's attack. He saves Morgan but dies in the process. Selene starts screaming at her fallen son. This breaks her concentration. Hunter hollers for Morgan to finish the spell, and Morgan does so. In the end, Selene and Cal are dead. A black vapor streams out of Selene's mouth and leaves through one of the library's windows. Morgan silently mourns for Cal. Morgan gets Mary K., and all of them leave the house.
